Tri-County Orthopedics provides free foot and ankle care to area homeless

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 4, 2012) – On Sunday, April 1, from 12-2:00 p.m., the StreetLight Mission, located at 1181 East Broad Street, Elizabeth, welcomed Tri-County Orthopedics' foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Michael I. Goldberger, and his health care team. They provided free foot and ankle exams and shoe fittings to 90 residents of the StreetLight Mission.

“Wearing shoes helps to prevent cuts and sores in addition to other painful injuries that may become infected and worsen over time,” explains Dr. Goldberger. “For this reason, I have continually conducted free health care examinations for the area homeless since 2007.”

Dr. Goldberger, along with Morristown Hospital nurses and professional shoe fitters, facilitated the free foot and ankle medical exams, treating calluses, toenails and other conditions. In addition, Aetrex along with Our Hearts to Your Soles, orthotic footwear companies, graciously donated a new pair of shoes and socks to the individuals who attended the foot and ankle care event.

Previous foot and ankle exams have treated more than 100 StreetLight Mission residents. Since 2008, the StreetLight Mission of Elizabeth has worked to help those individuals suffering from poverty, addiction and abuse.
