As the most preferred, recognized, and awarded orthopedic practice in the region, Tri-County Orthopedics is proud to provide specialized sports medicine care for lacrosse athletes throughout New Jersey. Offering insights on injury prevention and treatment, our team is dedicated to helping lacrosse players stay active and competitive.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, combining speed, contact, quick directional changes, and repetitive overhead motion into one demanding game. From sprinting and rapid directional changes to shooting and player contact, lacrosse places significant stress on the shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, wrists, and spine. Because of the physical nature of the sport, lacrosse players require expert care from doctors who understand the unique mechanics and injury risks associated with the game.
At Tri-County Orthopedics, our lacrosse injury experts treat athletes at every level, from adolescent and high school players to collegiate and adult competitors. Our goal is not only to help athletes recover from injury but also to help them safely return to the sport with the strength, stability, and confidence they need to perform at their best.
Our specialty-trained doctors are experts in sports-related injuries, and they provide comprehensive care for the full spectrum of lacrosse injuries. Whether treatment involves physical therapy, regenerative medicine, bracing, injections, or advanced minimally invasive surgery, our team works closely with every athlete to develop a personalized treatment plan. Our focus for each lacrosse player is on recovery, injury prevention, and long-term performance.
Tri-County Orthopedics is proud to partner with Lacrosse Docs, an elite network of doctors dedicated to lacrosse injury prevention, sports performance, and advanced treatment options designed specifically for the demands of the sport.
Prepare for Lacrosse Play & Reduce Your Risk of Injury
Lacrosse athletes can help lower their risk of injury with proper preparation before practices and games. One important part of injury prevention is wearing properly fitted protective equipment—including helmets, shoulder pads, gloves, mouthguards, and footwear—to help protect players during competition.
In addition to the right gear, dynamic warm-ups, conditioning, and strength training can help improve flexibility, coordination, and stability while supporting safer movement on the field. Taking a proactive approach to preparation and recovery can help athletes stay healthier, perform at a higher level, and spend more time in the game.

Lacrosse Warm-Up & Strength Routine
Exercise 1
Walking Lunges With Rotation
This movement helps improve hip mobility, core activation, and balance while preparing the body for cutting and rotational movement during play.
1. Step forward into a lunge position.
2. Rotate your torso toward your front leg while keeping your core engaged.
3. Return to center, stand up, and repeat on the opposite side for 10 repetitions per leg.
Exercise 2
Resistance Band Shoulder External Rotations
Strong, stable shoulders are essential for shooting, passing, and checking.
1. Attach a resistance band to a secure object at elbow height.
2. Hold the band with your elbow bent at 90 degrees and tucked against your side.
3. Slowly rotate your forearm outward while keeping your elbow close to your body.
4. Return to the starting position and repeat 12 to 15 times on each arm.
Exercise 3
Skater Steps
This exercise helps improve balance, coordination, and lateral movement for quick changes in direction on the field.
1. Start standing with your feet shoulder-width apart.
2. Step laterally to one side and bring your opposite foot behind you in a skating motion.
3. Continue alternating side to side for 20 total repetitions.
Exercise 4
Plank Shoulder Taps
Core strength and shoulder control are critical for maintaining posture, balance, and stick control during contact and movement.
1. Begin in a pushup plank position.
2. Keeping your hips steady, lift one hand and tap the opposite shoulder.
3. Alternate sides for 20 total taps.
Exercise 5
Single-Leg Deadlifts
This exercise helps strengthen the hamstrings, glutes, hips, and stabilizing muscles that support balance and lower-body control during play.
1. Stand on one leg with a slight bend in your knee.
2. Slowly hinge forward at your hips while extending your opposite leg behind you.
3. Return to standing and repeat for 10 repetitions on each leg.
