What to Expect

Your experience before, during, and after surgery will reflect that of most total knee patients; however, there will be a few key differences. For instance, in the preoperative phase, your surgeon may use a series of X-rays to create a 3D model of your knee, allowing them to develop a personalized surgical plan prior to your surgery.

During surgery, your surgeon will perform your total knee replacement with the aid of ROSA Knee, a robotic assistant. ROSA Knee uses a camera as well as optical trackers that are attached to your leg to know the exact position of your knee. This helps your surgeon carry out your personalized surgical plan accurately. ROSA Knee also provides your surgeon with data throughout your procedure, which helps them precisely place your implant. 

After surgery, you will start a recovery plan that has been designed for your individual case. Recovery time varies from patient to patient, but most patients can start driving after 2 weeks, do light activities, such as gardening, after 3 – 4 weeks, and return to some recreational activities, such as golf, after 6 – 8 weeks. As your recovery progresses, your surgeon will meet with you to discuss when you can start participating in certain activities again as well as which ones you should continue to avoid.
