Dr. Paul Lombardi Becomes First US Surgeon to Use GYDER Hip Navigation System
Paul M. Lombardi, M.D., a fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon at Tri-County Orthopedics and The Joint Replacement Institute, recently became the first surgeon in the United States to use the GYDER Hip Navigation System. Recently, Dr. Lombardi welcomed the team from Gyder Surgical to The Joint Replacement Institute, an ambulatory surgery center in Bridgewater, where he performed total hip replacement using the innovative technology.
The GYDER Hip Navigation System is the world’s first pin-less, image-less hip navigation technology designed specifically for precise cup placement in total hip replacement. The system provides real-time guidance for accurate implant placement without invasive metallic pins or reliance on CT or X-ray imaging. Already in use internationally in Australia and India, the system enhances surgical accuracy while integrating seamlessly into existing surgical workflows. The GYDER Hip Navigation System has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance and is now commercially available in the United States.
The technology is a natural fit for Dr. Lombardi’s surgical approach. He performs total hip replacement using the direct anterior approach, a muscle-sparing technique that spreads muscles rather than cutting them during surgery. Dr. Lombardi performs this approach without the use of a specialized table and without X-ray guidance, making the GYDER system an ideal complement to his established surgical style.
“After using the GYDER Hip Navigation System in my ASC, my impression is that it is incredibly accurate without the use of pins or X-ray and adds minimal additional time to the procedure, while seamlessly entering into the surgical flow of the operation,” said Dr. Lombardi.
