Dr. Stephen Hunt graduated from Yale University in 1996, where he was a four-year letterman and captain of the men’s lacrosse team. He then entered medical school at the New York University School of Medicine, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Next, he completed his residency at New York University's Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During residency, he was recognized as a Pfizer Scholar in pain management and was selected as an administrative chief resident. After residency, he spent a year in Vail, Colorado, to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at the prestigious Steadman-Hawkins Clinic. Recently renamed The Steadman Clinic, the institution is recognized internationally for advancing the care of shoulder, hip, and knee sports injuries through clinical and basic science research as well as for evolving new surgical techniques.

Throughout his training, he has worked with several professional sports teams, including the New York Mets, the Denver Broncos, the United States Ski Team, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. In 2008 and 2009, Dr. Hunt was the team physician for Sky Blue Soccer’s W-League team, Jersey Sky Blue. He currently serves as a game physician for Ridge High School, Bernards High School, and The Pingry School. He also serves as team orthopedist for the New York Jets.

Dr. Hunt is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. His research has been published in such journals as The American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy, and the Journal of Trauma. Additionally, he has authored several chapters for orthopedic textbooks and given presentations at several orthopedic society meetings, and he recently published an editorial article on hip preservation in Arthroscopy.

He has been recognized as America's Top Orthopedist in Sports Medicine by the Consumer Research Council and received the Patient's Choice Award for Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He has also been named Top Doc and recognized in the Bone & Joint Select Surgeons listing in New Jersey Monthly magazine as well as a 2023 Jersey Choice Top Doctor based on a survey of more than 26,000 New Jersey doctors.

Dr. Hunt has focused his training on becoming an expert in both arthroscopic and open surgical techniques for joint repair, preservation, and reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Additionally, Dr. Hunt has specialized expertise in other sports medicine procedures, such as ACL reconstruction and rotator cuff repair as well as hip arthroscopy, including femoroacetabular impingement and labral repairs. Most importantly, he is committed to helping his patients get over their injuries or pain so they can get back to living active lifestyles.
